Our Journey To Now

My husband and I met at Heroe's Bar down in Old Town in Wichita, Ks in June 2007. We didn't leave each other sights from our first date June 10,2007. From that date on, we were inseperable. He's been my best friend, my confidante, my life. He has been more of a support system than I thought I would ever find. He's been throuhg more with me than he bargained for I'm sure, but always is the strongest.
He's been so brave and strong through out the first 4 years of our relationship and the last year since August when we were married, he's been even more of a rock. We new there would be an amazing journey to start a family no matter what, but we never knew that it would start right were I work.

With the certainty that Derek and I would have to adopt, I never thought that I would meet someone so selfless and understanding. I met Roberta, our GC, at the clinic that I work at. We had never talked about any type of treatment, she new that I had some difficulties with my health, but never that we were thinking about IVF with a Gestational Carrier.

One day at lunch, we were both talking about nothing really and the topic came up. I had been doing a lot of research about all of our options. I had said that I was looking at agencies for a GC (Gestational Carrier) and that I couldn't BELIEVE how expensive it was for someone. She then said the words that would change our live. She said, I've always wanted to do that for someone. I couldn't believe my ears. I said that I would love to think about it, of course this was at least a year before Derek and I got married. The thought left both of us and wasn't brought up for a while.

About 6 months before Derek and I got married, we talked about this topic again. Brought the idea up to our boss, and then to the other employees of our facitlity. They were all stunned, some didn't understand, some didn't think it was a good idea. But for Roberta and I, it seemed OK. We were acquaintences, seeing each other just at work. It was the perfect situation. Of course there was a lot more testing and other procedures and requirements before it would be possible. But we started the process and figured what ever happened we would be happy with. Derek and I were elated that every stepping stone that needed to be crossed, was passed with flying colors.

We did all of the necessary testing, both Derek and I and Roberta and her husband. This takes us to now, where my posts start. I hope that if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I'm always willing to find an answer!
